Microsoft Could Be Getting Windows 12 Ready For 2024.

Microsoft is altering the manner in which it provides significant updates to Windows once more, and this might lead to the release of Windows 12 in 2024. The next major version of Windows is now scheduled for release in 2024, according to Windows Central, as Microsoft is returning to a three-year release cycle for the operating system. Another significant shift has been made in how Microsoft creates Windows.

When Windows 10 was first released in 2015, Microsoft shifted away from its three-year cycle and put more emphasis on the concept of Windows as a service. Windows 10 was updated twice a year with significant new features as opposed to every three years as was the case with previous Windows releases. Many Windows observers believed for many years that Windows 10 would be the final major edition of Windows after a Microsoft employee referred to it as “the last version of Windows.”

Microsoft never rejected such statements, instead stating at the time that they were “representative of the way Windows would be provided as a service providing new innovations and upgrades in an ongoing manner.” All of that changed when Windows 11 was released last year, and Microsoft switched to an annual update cycle for both Windows 10 and 11.

Given Microsoft’s switch to the Windows 11 branding, it stands to reason that every subsequent significant Windows release would likewise experience a branding shift. Since Microsoft hasn’t yet included Windows 11.1 or 11.2 with any of its significant Windows 11 upgrades, many people may now be wondering if Windows 12 is on the horizon.

Microsoft still has plans to keep Windows 11 current in the years to come, along with the release of the next version of Windows in 2024. In recent months, the software developer has backed off from its initial commitment to release significant yearly updates for Windows 11 in favour of releasing key features as they become available. The next 22H2 big upgrade was just completed by Microsoft, and it is presently anticipated to release in September or October.

Microsoft apparently decided against releasing a large 23H2 yearly update in 2023 and would instead focus on releasing new features throughout the year. This is more in keeping with Microsoft’s recent modifications to the Windows Insider programme, which include increased experimentation and widespread testing of prototype features.

Microsoft has not publicly addressed its ambitions for the Windows roadmap. After the pandemic increased Windows usage, the business has been working harder than ever on Windows over the past two years. Microsoft had intended to release Windows 10X on dual-screen devices, but after proclaiming at the start of the epidemic that “the PC is back,” it went on to redesign 10X into what is now Windows 11.
