The world’s most advanced VPN service provider, NordVPN has created an open-source speed-test tool to allow users to compare speeds between different VPN services.
According to the company, the tool will address some limitations of traditional VPN testing tools, such as their lack of transparency, reliability, universal applicability, and lack of transparency.
This tool provides a standard, unified speed-testing method to measure network throughput from a VPN source.
You can find this publicly-available solution on GitHub. This report contains detailed test results, including the number of tests per minute, download speeds, arithmetic mean, and winner results.
NordVPN recommends that you run a VPN performance testing for at least three days, with at most one per hour, to get a better comparison.
You can test subjects including NordVPN and ExpressVPN and SurfShark, PIA, and PureVPN. Adding support to other VPN service providers requires creating a personal branch in the tool’s GitHub repository and updating the code.

NordVPN explained that the current industry situation is due to the lack of a consistent approach to measuring performance. Different researchers from different outlets have different results and are ranked differently. This conflicting information is harmful to VPN providers and users alike. Users may find it difficult to make informed decisions because of the confusion.
NordVPN’s speed test tool uses virtual private servers (VPSs) from Vultr and Linode cloud hosting providers to verify that the results are valid if both VPS providers have comparable speeds.
Vykintas Manikas, a NordVPN cybersecurity expert, said that speed is one of many important factors affecting users’ experience using a VPN. People want to protect their internet traffic but not sacrifice speed.
Maknickas said that testing VPN speed is complicated because of the many factors that can affect it.
